ESAB now offers an on line basic awareness training package consisting of approximately 2 hours of core study material.
The training covers a range of topics including:
- Background to adult protection
- What is abuse (signs and indicators)
- Roles and responsibilities
- Case studies
- Reporting procedures
The programme links to useful documents, procedures and forms and concludes with an on line assessment which provides a random selection of questions taken from a comprehensive question bank. User results will be recorded for management information and learners will receive a summary of their achievement.
The package is suitable all for individuals who work directly with vulnerable adults.

Introduction to Safeguarding Adult from Abuse
This half-day multi-agency course is aimed at anyone working with adults in a health or social care setting.
By the end of the programme, the aim is that participants will:
- Understand why this is an important issue
- Provide an overview of relevant policy and context
- Explore what is abuse including signs and symptoms
- Outline the procedures for reporting abuse
- Discuss good practice procedures if someone discloses abuse

The training is designed for those already familiar with issues of adult safeguarding but who are less experienced in training and therefore wish to gain confidence, skills and materials for training colleagues. The training is most appropriate for those who will be cascading the training to colleagues who deliver ‘hands-on’ care or direct services.
By the end of the programme, the aim is that participants will:
- Identify own and others preferred style of learning and understand how learning styles influence the training process.
- Renew knowledge relating to group processes and apply this to training.
- Demonstrate and share skills in relation to presentation of material and facilitation of discussions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of adult protection policy, practice and procedures.
- Integrate principles of diversity and anti-discriminatory practice into training.
- Identify various methods of evaluating the effectiveness of training

Duration of course – 3 days
Attendees must as a minimum have already completed and adult protection basic awareness course
The course will be assessed through group exercises and presentations. Every opportunity will be made to enable participants to demonstrate their skills. Following the training course there will be ongoing support to ensure that it is being delivered to the standard required.
