Estuary Management Plan
A wide amount of activities take place within the estuary including fishing, recreation, tourism and agriculture. The Crouch & Roach Estuaries are a living and working environment of significant diversity and quality, much of which is experiencing change. The need to manage and harmonise the many activities has therefore become increasingly important. The Crouch & Roach Estuary Management Plan together with a programme of action aims to achieve a co-ordinated approach that addresses both short and long term objectives.
Critical to the success of this process are the views and opinions of those that live work and enjoy this unique area. The plan has been shaped by the community and it has been built on the findings of the Burnham and Rochford Market Town Healthchecks. For this plan diverse methods of consultation were used including questionnaires to the clubs, workshops and community drop ins, and general face to face discussions with regular estuary users and others in the local community. By the community, local interests and statutory undertakers working together, a real difference can be achieved and a more sustainable future for the estuaries, its communities, and the local economy can be secured. The plan is not a statutory document, but it will gain teeth through the commitment of the project partners.
