Age Concern Essex
They empower older people to live independently. They support 34 local groups and numerous lunch clubs, day centres and social clubs.

Age-Net
This is an 'Age Friendly' site for the UK's Over 50s. It seeks to provide a platform for your interests and answers to your questions.

Age UK
This is the new force combining Age Concern and Help the Aged. From Spring 2010 they will be known by their new name.

Campaign to end loneliness
This is an initiative which aims to identify actions that could be taken by individuals and organisations to help prevent loneliness in old age.

Contact The Elderly
This is a national charity that works closely with numerous statutory and voluntary organisations concerned with older people. They also organise monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for people over 75 who live alone with little or no support from family and friends.

Deafblind  
This is a national charity with a variety of services available across Essex via a local team of staff. They provide services for people with a combined sight and hearing loss including those with a mild to moderate loss acquired in old age. Services include Specialist Assessments, 12 Essex deafblind clubs, volunteer befrienders, communicator guides who provide 1-1 support with a variety of needs including correspondence, shopping, carers breaks and health appointments. With nearly 300 members within Essex this service is growing fast in both size and reputation.

DisabledGo
This website contains information to all kinds of venues that are accessed by members of the public. Places covered include cinemas, hotels, hospitals, colleges, sports grounds, restaurants, council offices, parks, historic land marks and tourist attractions. Citizens are able to search for a building or open space and see detailed information, along with images, on how each place can be accessed. They are unique in sending a surveyor to visit all of the venues featured.

Disability Essex
A County charity which, since 1949, has provided help, advice and support to disabled people, their carers and dependants. It provides a disability information advice line which is manned by disabled volunteers and operates from Monday to Friday. View their latest newsletter

Essex Blind Charity  
They deliver a range of excellent support services to visually impaired people in Essex providing support, care, advice and social opportunity to blind and partially sighted adults, and support their families and carers. Visit the website to find your local resource centre and services.

ECDP (Essex Coalition of Disabled People)
This is an organisation run by and for disabled people in Essex. The organisation's vision is to enhance the everyday lives of disabled people in Essex. They currently provide a wide range of support, information, advice and guidance services to anyone covered under disability law.

HARP (Homeless Action Resource Project)
This charity provides a 24 hour services to those who are homeless. Their main goal is to provide homeless people with help and support in securing accommodation.

This is a national campaign to reduce cold-related illness and deaths during winter. You'll find information and advice about how to stay well in winter by keeping warm and what financial support is available.

Learndirect
This is a nationally recognised brand for learning and supplies a large number of e-learning courses. Learndirect has been developed with a remit from government to provide high quality post-16 learning and has a network of over 800 online learning centres in England and Wales.

NACAB  
The Citizens Advice Bureau provides free information and advice to help people resolve their legal, money and other problems, by providing free, independent and confidential advice.

National pensioners convention
The NPC campaigns for dignity, financial security and fulfilment for all older people across the UK.

Post Office Community Information Points
This document gives details on where you can access an Essex County Council Information Point within a Post Office. At these information points use can access a range of services, such as bus times and renewing your library books.

RNIB
They offer information, support and advice to people with sight loss. Their work helps anyone with a sight problem, not just with Braille and Talking Books, but with imaginative and practical solutions to everyday challenges.

The Royal British Legion  
They provide, financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants.  Nearly 9.5 million people are eligible for our help. If you have financial difficulties and don't know where  to turn for help, The Royal British Legion can provide support through our Immediate Needs Scheme.
