Passenger Transport Co-ordination Centre
The Passenger Transport Co-ordination Centre (PTCC) is responsible for procuring and monitoring the passenger transport needs of the County Council. Essex travel information
The website provided by the Essex Traffic Control Centre gives up to date information on disruptions and incidents on Essex's roads. You can also pin point the locations of traffic cameras, message signs and car parks.

Transport direct
On this website you can plan a door to door journey by public transport or by car. You can also find car parks, cycle routes and check live travel updates.

Traveline
This website allows you to plan your journey by bus, train, coach, ferry or underground. It provides comprehensive public transport information for journeys in England, Scotland and Wales.


Travel training

The Travel Training Scheme run by Essex County Council is designed to compliment and enhance existing travel provision and to encourage and promote independence. It helps young people with special needs and adults with learning difficulties to develop skills to use public transport services. Loan Wheelchairs


Basildon District Volunteer Carers Wheelchair Loan Service
This service enables any resident of any age within the Basildon borough to hire a wheelchair free of charge. They have a large fleet of wheelchairs available for both long and short terms loans. In order to hire one of their wheel chairs they require a deposit (refundable) and proof in identity.

Red Cross Equipment
Their volunteer-led medical equipment service provides wheelchair hire and short-term loans of equipment in almost 1000 outlets in the UK, helping tens of thousands of people every year.


Buses


Chelmsford Park and Ride
Chelmsford has two park and ride sites: one based in Sandon and one based in Chelmer valley. Buses run every 10 minutes between 0700 and 1900 to the town centre. Over 60's can Park and Ride for free after 9am.

National Express - Route Sixty
If you're over 60 you qualify for concessionary fares on National Express Coaches. This could mean you only pay half the price. This page provides details on the Route Sixty scheme and how it can benefit you.

Free minibus service to Hylands park and house
The Friends of Hylands house, with Essex County Council, are running a free minibus service from Chelmsford shopmobility to Hylands House on the second Monday of every month. The service will run from April to September for the next three years.

The Broomfield Hopper
Broomfield hospital now runs a free minibus service to help paitents and visitors travel around the hospital site.


Bus passes


Free bus pass  
If you are over 60 or an eligible disabled person you may be entitled to free off-peak local bus travel anywhere in England.

Railcards


Senior Railcard
If you are 60 or over you can buy a Senior Railcard which will give you savings on standard and first class train fares.

Disabled Persons Railcard
You may be able to apply for a disabled persons railcard if you have a disability that makes travelling by train difficult.

Driving Licence renewal

Renewing your driving licence at 70 plus
When you reach the age of 70 your driving licence entitlement will expire. If you want to continue to drive, the entitlement will need to be renewed by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).Directgov provide details of how to apply for a renewal.

The Motability Scheme
Buying and adapting a car can be expensive. The Motability Scheme - run by the independent not-for-profit organisation Motability - gives disabled people the opportunity to own or lease a car at an affordable price.
