Training and development
The ESCB offers Training for Trainers courses to support agencies in delivering their own training or to train people to contribute to the delivery of multi-agency training.
What level of knowledge / competence should staff have in connection with safeguarding?
To help organisations understand the level of knowledge and skills that their staff should have, the ESCB has adapted the Working Together to Safeguard and Promote the Welfare of Children 2010 ‘Suggested Training for Target Groups.’
Safeguarding Group 2 Training (ESCB Level 1)
Group 2 (ESCB Level 1) is basic awareness training for those in regular contact with children and young people and/or with adults who are parents and carers. Individual agencies normally provide this training for their staff on a single agency basis however the ESCB is able to support this through on line learning and workbooks. The on line learning is also particularly suitable for those who are not able to access basic awareness training through their organisations, such as sports coaches, scout and guide leaders, youth club leaders, religious leaders and voluntary organisations.
This training is now available via the Essex County Council Integrated Working, Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership -

Risk taking behaviour in adolescence can be exhibited in many ways, from drug and alcohol use and unprotected sex to driving dangerously and anti-social behaviour.
Risk taking is a normal part of our human development, but for some young people this can become problematic, destructive and have far reaching consequences for themselves and those around them.
This training is aimed at those in Working Together Groups 3, 4 and 5 which includes:
Adult & Young People’s Drug Services, Children’s Social Care, CAMHS, Police Officers, Health professionals including GP’s, Child Protection Investigation Officers, School Staff, Health Visitors, School Nurses, those working with children, young people and their families in the voluntary and community sector, early years and childcare providers.
